Various ports, including Charleston and Savannah, are set to gain from President Obama’s fiscal 2016 budget request, but his request for overall port funding falls far short of the targets set by legislation he signed just six months ago.

Although Obama last year signed landmark legislation aimed at increasingly returning more money collected through Harbor Maintenance Taxes back to ports, the budget released Monday by the White House would actually cut how much ports would receive compared to the current fiscal year.
