In the time it takes you to read this sentence, truckers in the United States will have driven 80,000 miles.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, September 9-15, 2018, is when America takes the time to honor all professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs. These 3.5 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely and on time, they also keep our highways safe.  Drivers come in all kinds of forms including: small parcel delivery, full truck loads, less than truck loads, local, over-the-road, dray service drivers, team drivers, overweight and project cargo moves, oil tankers, grain haulers, and the list goes on. 

When was the last time you assessed the things around you?  The clothes you’re wearing?  The food you’re eating?  Where did they come from?  How did they get to you?  We couldn’t be the economy we are today without truck drivers.  They are essential to the transportation of so many products that we desire and sometimes even need for survival.  When you are driving on the interstate, are you waving to the drivers that have been away from their families all week?  Have you read the side of the truck to see where it came from?  We challenge you to pay attention and read when you have the chance.  It’s incredible how one position can affect so many industries, people, infrastructure and planning, and complete the supply chain our economy relies on.  It is also an industry full of opportunity.  As drivers are retiring, new regulations are being put into place, and a growing import and export industry, there continues to be an increasing shortage of drivers.  Companies are paying premium salaries, offering great benefits, proposing sign on bonuses and more to hire truck drivers as the industry only continues to grow.
