House Passes GSP Renewal

Kansas City, Missouri– June 16, 2015 – On June 11, 2015 The House of Representatives passed the Trade Preferences and Extension Act (H.R. 1295) to retroactively reinstate the Generalized System of Preferences program (GSP) and renew the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

The House passed the bill with a 397-32 majority vote.  While the core GSP provisions are the same as those previously passed by the Senate back on May 14^th in a 97-1 vote, there were other changes to the bill.  The bill will now go back to the Senate for approval before the President can sign the legislation into law.

The GSP provisions of the bill would retroactively apply benefits to goods eligible under GSP and extend the program until December 31, 2017
