The Kansas City Animal Health Corridor released a new survey at its annual homecoming dinner Monday night showing that …

More than half of worldwide animal health, diagnostics and pet food sales come from companies that have a strategic location in the KC corridor.

The survey, conducted by Axxiom Consulting LLC, showed that companies with a KC Animal Health Corridor presence represented 56 percent of those sales, which total about $88.2 billion.

The KC Animal Health Corridor launched in 2006, and its boundaries stretch from Manhattan, Kan., to Columbia.

Since its inception, 31 animal health companies have located within the corridor and have pledged to create 1,368 new jobs.

In total, more than 300 animal health companies have a presence in the corridor, creating the largest concentration of such companies in the world.

“This latest survey is a powerful endorsement of nearly a decade of cooperation, teamwork and strategic focus that has driven the activities of the KC Animal Health Corridor effort since 2006,”Scott Bormann, corridor advisory board chair and vice president of U.S. operations for Merck Animal Health, said in a statement.
