Notice of International Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standard-Setting Activities

The Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a notice informing the public of the sanitary and phytosanitary standard-setting activities of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for the periods June 1, 2014, through May 31, 2015, and June 1, 2015, through May 31, 2016. This notice also provides a list of other standard-setting activities of Codex, including commodity standards, guidelines, codes of practice and revised texts. FSIS is requesting public comments on standards under consideration as well as recommendations for new standards.

Codex is the principal international organization for establishing standards for food. Through the adoption of food standards, codes of practice and other guidelines developed by its committees and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments, Codex seeks to protect the health of consumers, ensure fair trade practices in the food trade and promote coordination of food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
