Section 232 Product Exclusion Portal

232 Exclusion Portal

According to the Federal Register on June 10, 2019, The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) announced it will begin accepting new exclusion requests on the “232 Exclusions Portal” on June 13, 2019 and will no longer accept new exclusion requests on regulations.gov. The last day on which an exclusion request may be initiated through regulations.gov is June 12, 2019.

As stated by the Federal Register, anybody looking to submit exclusion requests, objections to exclusion requests, rebuttals and surrebuttals must use the new “232 Exclusion Portal” instead.  The DOC has created resources and guides to help importers navigate their way through the process.  A snap shot of the portal below reflects a significant improvement.  The actual portal will not go live until June 13, 2019 but you should be able to click on the image and navigate to the portal via the DOC Section 232 page.

Section 232 Product Exclusion process

The previous exclusion process on regulations.gov was not easily adaptable to the 232 submissions process, particularly as it evolved into a multi-step system and required a significant amount of human data entry. The 232 Exclusions Portal will allow 232 submitters to view all exclusion request, objection, rebuttal and surrebuttal documents in one web-based system.

For additional information on the new portal, please be sure to read the Federal Register notice here.
